In DayCount’s visible baseline, a business day is Monday through Friday: Saturday and Sunday do not count, and public holidays are not removed automatically. Other definitions depend on the governing organization, contract, jurisdiction, and cutoff time, so verify those rules at their source.
The baseline is Monday through Friday
For a general calculator, the most understandable baseline is to count Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, while skipping Saturday and Sunday. A shift starts after the reference date: adding one business day to Friday lands on Monday. This definition is stable and easy to verify on a calendar.
What 1, 2, and 3 business days after Friday mean
With Friday as the reference date, no named holiday, and the reference date excluded, Monday is business day 1, Tuesday is day 2, and Wednesday is day 3. Therefore, three baseline business days after Friday lands on Wednesday. If the wording includes Friday itself, starts after a cutoff, or uses a named holiday calendar, the answer can change; follow the rule attached to the real deadline.
Business days are not the same as calendar days
Starting after Friday, three calendar days are Saturday (1), Sunday (2), and Monday (3), while three baseline business days are Monday (1), Tuesday (2), and Wednesday (3). In this model, a business day is a counted calendar date, not a promise of a fixed number of office hours or a universal 24-hour service window.
Holidays require a named calendar
A public holiday differs by country, region, year, employer, bank, and sometimes industry. Removing holidays without asking which calendar applies would create false confidence. The first DayCount release therefore does not remove them. If a promise says business days excluding public holidays, consult the named jurisdiction or official calendar.
Hours and legal terms may override the shortcut
A package accepted after a carrier cutoff may begin its first business day tomorrow. A filing submitted electronically may follow another rule, and some workplaces operate weekends. DayCount works with whole LocalDate values and does not model hours, service levels, or local legislation. Treat the result as calendar arithmetic, then apply the source’s operational rules.
